come as you are

come as you are is a song by nirvana. the song was released as a single and also appears on their infamous album "nevermind". this song is regarded as their 2nd most popular track. the song was written and composed by the frontman of the band, kurt cobain. it's composed in the key of E minor, at 120bpm. anyways, enough of the technical crap. i want to talk about my personal interpretation of the lyrics, and my connection to the song.
the song is very abstract, and doesnt have a clear meaning. there are two ways that i intepret the song. one interpretation is how i think the song is intended to be seen, and how i personally relate the lyrics to myself. i first want to talk about how i personally relate the lyrics to myself.
the lyrics throughout the entire song are very oxymoronic. for example "come as you are, as you were, as i want you to be" all of these statements contradict eachother. which i relate to in the sense of everyone expects completely different things from me. and i don't know what to do. and during the part of the song where it repeats "and i swear that i don't have a gun", i relate to that in the sense of i've had to swear i don't/won't do something, and that i have no way to do it. even when i do. the song is generally very vague, and this is how i've found a way to relate to it.
but the way i think the song was intended to be interpreted is also in a way of contradiction. kind of in a way intended to be critical of the standards of the world, and how it's always switching up. but it's also one of those songs that a lot of people listen to for sound rather than lyrical content. which is quite a shame.
but i think that those who do pay attention to the lyrics really understand what it means. and i think that small percentage of people are those who really resonate with the song (like me). and those who listen to it for it's sound are still appreciating the wonder that is this song. and to me that's all that really matters. it's really a great song, and the meaning can be interpreted in so many different ways. it's a very versatile song. that's largely a part of the appeal.

lol can you guys tell that this is my all time favorite song
also i'm come as you are's #1 FAN!!!

note to self: add an audio file containing the song (or part of it, perhaps) here at a later time.
